Mulberry Sicilian Granita

Mulberries are perhaps one of the most representative and characteristic symbols of Sicily and its summer.


This wonderful fruit not only has a unique taste and aroma, but it is above all a concentrate of health and beneficial nutrients for our body. Mulberries are in season now, and until about end of July.


One of the classic recipes with this fruit is the typical Sicilian granita! The refreshing ideal treat during the hot days of summer 🙂

Ingredients

  • 600 gfresh mulberries
  • 300 mltable water
  • 200 gbrown sugar

Preparation

  1. – pour the water onto a saucepan, add the sugar;

    – put the saucepan on the stove on a medium heat;

    – cook till the sugar melts and you obtain a syrup, it should not boil;

    – wash the mulberries well and dry them gently with a clean cloth;

    – transfer the mulberries into a blender and reduce them to a puree;

    – pour the syrup on the mulberry puree and mix well;

    – transfer the mixture thus obtained into a bowl and put it in the freezer;

    – every 30 minutes, you must stir well the mixture in the bowl with a spoon;

    – repeat the above step for at least 3 more times;

    – after 2 hours, the granita should have reached the right smooth texture;

    – keep the granita always in the freezer, and consume within a week
